What does it cost to get gym equipment hauled away?

Straight pricing for heavy fitness equipment removal in the Flathead Valley — when it's free, when it isn't, and what actually drives the number.

Short answer: for most working strength and cardio equipment in the Flathead Valley, nothing. We remove it free because we recondition and resell it, and the resale covers the truck and the labor. When a piece has no resale or scrap value, we quote it before we drive out — and you can say no.

That’s the whole pricing model. The rest of this page explains what makes a piece qualify, so you can work it out yourself before you call anyone.

What makes removal free

A piece qualifies when it’s worth more to us than the cost of moving it. In practice that means:

  • It works, or it’s a mechanical fix. A treadmill with a worn belt is fine. A treadmill with a cracked deck and a dead motor controller usually isn’t.
  • It’s a known brand with a parts supply. Life Fitness, Precor, Matrix, Hammer Strength, Cybex, Star Trac, Body-Solid and similar have a real secondary market. House brands from big-box stores generally don’t.
  • The frame is straight and uncorroded. Surface rust is cosmetic. Rust through a weld or a cracked upright makes it unsafe to move, let alone resell.
  • It’s plate-loaded, selectorized, a rack, or commercial cardio. These hold value. Vibration plates, ab rollers and 1990s multi-gyms mostly don’t.

What costs money

Three things turn a free job into a quoted one.

No resale value. If we’re hauling it to the metal recycler rather than to a buyer, we’re absorbing fuel, labor and tipping fees with nothing on the other side. That’s a real job and it gets a real price.

Extraction that isn’t normal. Stairs are included. Elevators are included. A basement with a 180-degree turn at the landing is included. What isn’t: anything needing a wall opened, a window removed, or a crane. If a machine was assembled in a room whose doorway it will not fit back through, that’s a disassembly job, and we’ll tell you on the phone whether it’s realistic.

Distance without volume. In the Flathead Valley — Kalispell, Whitefish, Columbia Falls, Bigfork, Lakeside, Somers, Evergreen — there’s no minimum. One piece is a real job. Missoula and Polson need $250 of resale value to justify the drive; Great Falls, Coeur d’Alene and Spokane need $500. That’s not a fee you pay, it’s a threshold the equipment has to clear.

Why the junk haulers quote what they quote

A national junk-removal franchise prices by volume — how much of the truck you fill — and adds labor for difficulty. A commercial leg press is both bulky and brutally heavy, so it tends to land near the top of their bracket. They also have no use for the machine afterward, so disposal is a cost they have to recover.

We’re pricing the opposite way round. The machine is the point. That’s the entire difference, and it’s why the same leg press can be a several-hundred-dollar removal job to one company and a free pickup to us.

How to find out in two minutes

Take a photo of the machine, a second photo of the doorway or stairs it has to come through, and send both. We’ll tell you free, quoted, or not worth either of our time — usually the same day. There’s no call-out fee and no charge for a quote you turn down.

We'll come get it.

Free removal on qualifying strength and cardio equipment across the Flathead Valley. Stairs, basements and elevators included. Send a photo and we'll tell you what it takes.
